The Andis UltraEdge 7 Skip Tooth (7ST) is a specialized blade designed primarily for heavy-duty grooming, particularly when you are dealing with thick, matted, or "tough" coats.

Here is a breakdown of what makes this specific blade unique and how to use it safely.

Key Specifications

  • Cutting Length: 1/8" (3.2mm).

  • Blade Type: Skip Tooth (not a "finish" blade).

  • Material: Carburized steel with a chrome finish to resist rust.

  • Compatibility: Fits all Andis AG, AGC, BDC, BG, DBLC, FHC, MBG, and SMC model clippers (as well as Oster A5 and Wahl KM series).

Why Use a "Skip Tooth" Blade?

Unlike "Finish" blades (labeled with an 'F'), where all the teeth are the same length, a Skip Tooth blade has alternating long and short teeth.

  • Better Feed: The uneven teeth help "comb" thick or wiry hair into the cutting blade. It’s much more effective at feeding coarse fur than a smooth finish blade.

  • Matted Fur: It is often the "go-to" for prep work on dogs with heavy coats (like Terriers or Spaniels) before the bath.

  • The Finish: Because the teeth are uneven, it leaves a more natural, textured look. If you want a perfectly smooth, velvet finish, you would typically follow this up with a #7F (Finish) blade.

⚠️ Essential Safety Warning

Skip Tooth blades require a steady hand. Because the teeth are spaced further apart, it is much easier for a pet’s skin—especially thin skin or folds—to get caught between the teeth and be nicked.

Pro Tip: Never use a Skip Tooth blade on cats or in sensitive areas (like the "armpits" or tuck-up) where the skin is loose. Stick to "Finish" blades for those areas.

Maintenance for Longevity

To keep the blade from dragging or pulling hair:

  1. Oil Frequently: Apply 3 drops of clipper oil across the teeth every 15 minutes of use.

  2. Clean the "Gills": Because it feeds a lot of hair, hair can get trapped between the top and bottom blade quickly. Use a blade brush or "Blade Wash" regularly.

  3. Check the Heat: Skip Tooth blades can friction-heat quickly. Touch the blade to your forearm frequently; if it's uncomfortable for you, it's too hot for the dog.
